Oral hygiene
The practice of maintaining a clean mouth on a regular basis is called oral hygiene. Oral hygiene involves keeping the mouth and the teeth free from food particles and bacteria. Cleaning the tongue, cleaning the insides of the cheeks, keeping the teeth and gums free from plaque and tarter are all important aspects of oral hygiene. Some foods have beneficial effect on dental health. Fruits like apple, kiwis keep the teeth clean and free from bacteria. Good oral hygiene can be enabled by consuming foods beneficial for dental health.
Poor oral hygiene is definitely an invitation for severe dental problems in the future. The best way to have good dental health is to ensure the practice of some very simple things related to mouth and teeth care.
Brushing is the best way to keep the mouth clean. Brushing should be done twice a day and if possible after every meal. Some individuals get so carried away with the idea keeping the mouth clean that brushing becomes a very aggressive activity for them. Care should be taken to brush the teeth and gums gently and thoroughly. Reaching the farthest corners of the mouth is very important. Often flossing of teeth is not given the kind of importance it deserves. Flossing as the name suggests involves cleaning the most remote corners of the mouth. Food particles stuck between the teeth can be effectively cleaned with flossing which is part of a good oral hygiene practice.
