Biography
I was born in the Golden State of California, raised in Eastern Africa; mainly in, Kenya & Uganda, and am of Indian descent. My 23 years have been blessed with a plethora of experiences. The most significant of these experiences has been the opportunities to serve the less fortunate. My perspective of human life, and definition of poverty has been shaped by my travels across the villages in East Africa.
Home, for the last ten years has been my warm community in the City of Falls Church, Virgina. For the last three years, while pursuing my undergraduate degree at George Mason University, I landed an opportunity to work as a dental assistant at Centreville Children's Dentistry. It was here, under the excellent mentorship of Dr. Talaksi that I discovered my inclination towards working with young children and those with special needs. I found that promoting good oral hygiene habits in children inculcates a life-long daily practice of a well-defined oral regimen.
Throughout the years I have worked in various secular and non-secular community service capacities. I have served as a community service chair for my sorority Delta Phi Omega, tutored at local libraries and middle schools, taught at Sunday school, as well as been involved in curriculum development for various summer camps.
The creation of this Dental Public Health Project; the Meno (Swahili for tooth) Project, is a marriage between my passion to serve the underprivileged and my interest in the Dental field. I believe that it is the duty of every global citizen to serve the needy. Thus far, with the gracious support of many wonderful people, we have held Dental education seminars as well as Dental projects at schools & orphanages across Eastern Africa and India. At present, we have served eleven hundred; 1100, underprivileged children. With your continued support we can continue to grow & serve. We aim to promote good oral hygiene across the globe :)
